Synopsis

After the Storm by Jane Lythell

A man who had no voice. A woman who helped him find it. Rob and Anna have only just met Owen and Kim. Now they've chartered their handsome old boat to take them to a far off island in the Caribbean. With just the four of them on board, Rob dreams of lazy afternoons snorkelling. Anna looks forward to the silence and solitude of the sea. But why does Owen suffer acute insomnia and seem so secretive about his past? Why does Kim keep a knife zipped into her money-belt? Anna, a speech therapist, can usually get people to tell her the truth...but does she want to this time?

Reviews

'A bit of a slow burner, but well worth the wait for the brilliantly dramatic ending. An enjoyable read - Best loves!'
Best

. 'Fascinating and clever ... The author's real skill is her ability to invent memorable original characters
Daily Mail

. 'As each [character] unburdens their secrets and unravels their problems, a sinister foreboding builds into a terrifying climax, keeping you on tenterhooks until the end
Country Life

. 'Lythell's strength is in her descriptions of the story's idyllic backdrop, the deserted islands and bustling ports. She's also good at conjuring up a beguiling sense of the lazy, hazy days of a Caribbean cruise
Irish Times

. 'What better place than the cramped, claustrophobic confines of a yacht for the setting of a thriller? Lythell has done it again, with a meticulously planned and plotted slow-burner of a book
Brighton and Hove Independent

. 'Jane Lythell, the new queen on the block when it comes to unravelling seemingly idyllic scenarios, page by page, as the participants rush headlong in their ignorance to an unspecified nemesis ... Ms Lythell skilfully ratchets up the pressure and apprehension
The Diplomat

. 'Taut and dark, the tension in this book builds slowly but surely. Loved it
Claire Fuller, author of Our Endless Numbered Days

. 'Unpredictable weather, novice sailors and the confined space of a boat in need of serious maintenance ratchets up the tension between them, as they skirt around each other, trying to hide their fears and deepest secrets. Great read!
Kerry Fisher, author of The School Gate Survival Guide and The Island Escape

. 'A brilliantly tense set up that only gets more fraught. I devoured After the Storm in one feverish gulp
Lucy Atkins, author of The Missing One and The Other Child

Lovereading is a wonderful way to expand my literary horizons, discover inspiring authors & get the chance to read new novels first. #loveit

Zarina de Ruiter

It's the first site that I visit when deciding on the next set of books to buy. A particular treat is being able to download an extract.

Tessa Olson

Lovereading is like booking a holiday, you don't know what it will be like and it is a whole new experience.

Sue Burton

As for why I'd recommend Lovereading, it's simple - it's a great place to get information and reviews about new books!

Margaret Freeman

A well laid out site, I love the fact that is separates paranormal fiction from fantasy and horror, which other sites don't.

Jen Rainbow

They are bright, breezy and eager to offer a great book, then genuinely listen/respect the review one writes.

Maggie Crane

Love books. Love reading. Love reading books. And, here's the trick. Here's a website which caters for people like me.

Ian Harvey-brown

Their sending me my first book to review 18 months ago re-awakened my fondness for reading, since then I have purchased some real gems.
