Sarah Broadhurst's view...

May 2014 Book of the Month and eBook of the Month.

A terrific book of which this is the second in a trilogy, following The Abomination, set mostly in Venice and following three different strands. it is an outstanding work. You can get away with reading this without having enjoyed the first but doing so will have you missing out on a great experience. Mixing recent history stretching back to World War II, an American undercover mission and a virtual reality website into a complex plot, it is riveting stuff. Kidnapping, murder, duplicity and skulduggery abound in one of the most thrilling crime tales I’ve read for a long time. Roll on book three.

If you like Jonathan Holt you might also like to read books by Andrea Camilleri, Terry Hayes and Jason Webster.

Who is Sarah Broadhurst

The Good Book Guide logo The Good Book Guide Review. Carnival in Venice. A girl in a feathered mask – just another reveller – wanders away from the crowd. Nobody hears her scream. A hunt begins for her kidnappers and some very grim secrets come to light. Jonathan Holt’s sprawling The Abomination boasted a sheer unabashed energy that kept things moving, ticking the boxes of now-familiar elements: knotty conspiracy, the CIA, sultry locales, Venice presented in minatory fashion, and the secretive enclaves of the Catholic Church, as slippery as it always is in such thrillers. Venice is once again the setting here, and the new book is equally involving.
