The Three by Sarah Lotz

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

A story told in journalistic style as a series of interviews, blogs, recorded conversations and official reports. As a style that can be irritating but Lotz pulls it off extremely well and I found it truly engaging. It is basically an exploration of how fragile society is and how western culture of freedom and tolerance takes very little pressure to completely disintegrate. The individual voices of the different narrators are wonderfully varied; sometimes I could even hear the accents rising off the page. It is macabre and disturbing but, like a conspirator, the reader is drawn steadily deeper into the plot until the need to know what happens becomes overwhelming.

If you like Sarah Lotz you might also like to read books by Ken Macleod, Simon Lelic and Christopher Galt.
