Keep Your Friends Close by Paula Daly

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

Shortlisted for the CWA Goldsboro Gold Dagger - Crime Novel of the Year 2014.

A tale of a complicated relationship, a cunning predator and fatal repercussions. It is very good. Nat and Sean are solidly married but an old university friend of Nat’s upsets the equilibrium and now both women seem to become a little unbalanced as each subtly (sometimes blatantly) fights for ‘their’ man. It’s a much trodden path in fiction which Paula Daly strides along brilliantly. Highly enjoyable, as was her first, Just What Kind of Mother Are You?

If you like Paula Daly you might also like to read books by Liane Moriarty, Samantha Hayes and Lucy Dawson.

Synopsis

Keep Your Friends Close by Paula Daly

Natty and Sean Wainwright are happily married. Rock solid in fact. So when Natty's oldest friend, Eve Dalladay, appears - just as their daughter collapses on a school trip in France - Natty has no qualms about leaving Eve with Sean to help out at home. Two weeks later and Natty finds Eve has slotted into family life too well. Natty's husband has fallen in love with Eve. He's sorry, he tells her, but their marriage is over. With no option but to put a brave face on things for the sake of the children, Natty embarks on building a new life for herself. And then she receives the note. Eve has done this before, more than once, and with fatal consequences...

Reviews

Utterly gripping, fast paced, and scarily believable. I enjoyed losing myself in Keep Your Friends Close till three in the morning and it's some time since I last found a book that did that. If there is any justice in this world it should be a number one book. I have told everyone they must put it on their reading list - Lesley Pearse

A well laid out site, I love the fact that is separates paranormal fiction from fantasy and horror, which other sites don't.
