A psychopath preys on lonely women and lures them into his trap using a dating website. But DS Imogen Grey is back and on the case as three separate stories unravel and we see the light in what is a dark dark crime novel. The fourth in the DS Grey Series, The Promise has big shoes to fill after The Teacher, The Secret and The Angel. However this is another banging book and can be read as a standalone if this is your first Katerina Diamond encounter. I promise you'll then want to read them all though!
Another powerful and dynamic offering from Katerina Diamond. 19 year old Gabriel Webb finds himself as the central suspect of a horrific crime, is he innocent or guilty? If you haven't yet stepped into the world of DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles, then do start with The Secret and The Teacher. Each story can in effect be read as a standalone, as each new set of supporting characters become vital leads, however the back story to Grey and Miles is just as important. As usual, a deep breath was required before I started, as once in, I found ‘The Angel’ impossible to put down. Katerina Diamond excels in creating spiralling, snaking, patterns that twist and turn in your mind. My eyes gobbled the words up, I love the dynamic between Grey and Miles, and as more information is revealed, we see further into their hearts and minds. With plenty of shocks and revelations, plus a thunderingly good story, The Angel just may be my favourite yet by Katerina Diamond, it’s certainly one not to miss. ~ Liz Robinson
Intense, shocking, thrilling… this is a fast-paced read, so as curveballs and whammies ricochet towards you, make sure you're on your toes and ready to keep up. DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles are plunged into another desperate search for the truth as twisted appalling crimes start to leach into their private lives. Katerina Diamond’s debut novel ‘The Teacher’ was an absolute knock out and I really do recommend reading it first, as I do think you need to have the back story of the investigators. Katerina Diamond maintains a fabulous balance between the story of the investigation and the people being investigated. My mind went into overdrive as I raced to keep up with the characters, links and twists. ‘The Secret’ with plenty of surprises in store, has the feeling of a nightmare come to life, and is a thoroughly entertaining read. ~ Liz Robinson November 2016 Book of the Month.
One of our Books of the Year 2016. Longlisted for the John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger Award 2016. A couple of Exeter cops attempt to solve the mystery of a hanged teacher which was locally followed by a whole series of gruesome deaths in this clever psychological thriller which somehow brings a new perspective to a familiar plot by illuminating the story through the eyes of several initially disparate characters. A wonderful example of the crime thriller as a jigsaw where the author always remains that one step ahead of the reader. Splendidly engineered and a compulsive page turner which introduces a likeable set of investigators faced with a succession of rather horrible conumdrums, and thus not for the fainthearted, although assiduous readers of Thomas Harris and Patricia Cornwell will not blanch at the explicitness involved in several of the doomed protagonists' demise. ~ Maxim Jakubowski The Lovereading view... Oooh, this is disturbingly good! Two detectives with their own fair share of problems find themselves in the middle of an explosion of murders, as the macabre and gruesomely graphic deaths start to mount, whose side will you find yourself on? Katerina Diamond transports you from murder, to investigation, to inside different minds with ease, each time settling you so completely into that moment, that it comes as a shock when you move on again. If you are a little squeamish, then on occasion you might need to read between your fingers, but once you start, it’s utterly compelling and I found it impossible to put down. This is such a striking novel, it makes you consider, and ponder the meaning of justice. Deliciously thrilling and menacing, ‘The Teacher’ is a crime thriller with biting, provocative attitude and I absolutely adored it. ~ Liz Robinson March 2016 Debut of the Month.
