Little Wing is the powerful story of two families over three generations. In the 1960s, a pregnant 16-year-old is banished to one of the remotest parts of the UK. Years later, Nell and Dougie are both at critical moments in their lives when their paths cross. Between Camden, Colchester and the Outer Hebrides, the three story lines collide when secrets are uncovered and answers sought. Little Wing is a novel about resilience, forgiveness and the true meaning of family, about finding one's place in the world and discovering how we all belong somewhere and to someone.

The Turning Point

Author: Freya North Format: Paperback Release Date: 24/03/2016

April 2016 Book of the Month. An expressive, moving novel with the ability to reach out, connect with and yet bruise hearts.  Frankie and Scott, both in their forties, both with children, meet and fall in love at first sight (well, perhaps second), their positivity obliterates the distance between Norfolk and the west coast of Canada as their romance blossoms. If you've read and adored the author’s earliest novels you'll expect the lightness of touch, but perhaps not the intensely hard hitting depth of emotion contained within this beautifully readable book. This change in direction opens the door to a whole new audience, yet the unmistakable sweet spicy tone will be recognised by existing fans. Freya North has a wonderfully distinctive writing style, she has a real gift for bringing thoughts and emotions to life, so that they feel real, feel known and understood. Descriptions of the ordinary somehow become special moments, while the complex and complicated are so simply yet vividly expressed. This is a gorgeously eloquent and touching novel, it is also a celebration of the wonderful glory of love and life. ~ Liz Robinson   Click here to read an exclusive interview with Freya North by Mary Hogarth.   Like-for-Like Reading: Jojo Moyes, Lisa Jewell, Jane Green One of our Books of the Year 2015. June 2015 Book of the Month. A new Freya North is always cause for celebration.  In this one she follows Oriana back to her roots, to old flames, the love of brothers and a rift with her father.  It’s an involved relationship tale with characters from her previous books thrown in for fans.  A lovely read that keeps you anticipating a twist that is nicely unexpected.  At some point I was a little bewildered as to why Oriana acted as she did but the story flowed well and I couldn’t put it down. ~ Sarah Broadhurst Like-for-Like Reading: Jojo Moyes, Lisa Jewell, Jane Green

Winner of the Romantic Novel of the Year Award 2008.Childhood sweethearts meet seventeen years later and the spark is now adult. This is emotional, feel-good, warm stuff with the couple each having a past to sort out. Along the way I learned some interesting facts about the precious stone, tanzanite, and quite a bit about sleepwalking – an added bonus to a lovely read.Comparison: Jane Green, Catherine Alliott, Carole Matthews.RNA panel comment: "Petra is the girl we all dreamt of being and Arlo the man we all wanted to meet. Interestingly different style for this lovely author who starts by introducing us to her four main characters through the voice of each one.  They link, entwine and react over a few years and the book closes with a chapter on each again.  Freya is good at writing about sex and does so here but not as often as in previous books.  In many ways her story has grown up as indeed she must have too, and the emotional descriptions are fantastic.  It’s an absorbing, satisfying read, strangely unpredictable.Comparison: Carmen Reid, Maggie Alderson, Daisy Waugh.Similar this month: Kate Harrison, Penny Vincenzi.
