The Condition of the Working-Class in England in 1844
'The Condition of the Working-Class in England in 1844' is a socio-economic and political work by Friedrich Engels, a German philosopher and collaborator of Karl Marx. The book provides a critical analysis of the living and working conditions of the working class in England during the Industrial Revolution. Engels conducted extensive research and firsthand observations, drawing attention to the deplorable conditions faced by the working class in urban industrial centers. He explores issues such as long working hours, child labor, unsanitary living conditions, lack of workers' rights, and the exploitation of labor by the emerging industrial capitalist class. The book serves as a scathing critique of the social and economic inequalities of the time, highlighting the stark contrast between the living conditions of the working class and the affluent bourgeoisie.

'The Communist Manifesto,' co-authored by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in 1848, is a profound critique of capitalism and a blueprint for a new social order, communism. It argues that the proletariat, or working class, will lead the revolution against the capitalist system's inherent class inequalities. Spanning four sections, the manifesto traces class struggles, critiques the bourgeoisie, reviews socialist and communist literature, and examines the position of communists relative to opposition parties. In reading this key political tract, remember it is a product of its time. Yet its discourse on wealth, power, and economic disparity remains relevant today. This timeless work invites us to critically examine our society, offering crucial insights into socio-political ideologies shaping our world.

The Communist Manifesto, originally the Manifesto of the Communist Party (German: Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei), is an 1848 political document by German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Commissioned by the Communist League and originally published in London just as the Revolutions of 1848 began to erupt, the Manifesto was later recognised as one of the world's most influential political documents. It presents an analytical approach to the class struggle (historical and then-present) and the conflicts of capitalism and the capitalist mode of production, rather than a prediction of communism's potential future forms. The Communist Manifesto summarises Marx and Engels' theories concerning the nature of society and politics, namely that in their own words 'the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles'. It also briefly features their ideas for how the capitalist society of the time would eventually be replaced by socialism. In the last paragraph of the Manifesto, the authors call for a 'forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions', which served as a call for communist revolutions around the world. In 2013, The Communist Manifesto was registered to UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme along with Marx's Capital, Volume I.

The Communist Manifesto (Unabridged)
The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels - (German: Das Kommunistische Manifest), originally the Manifesto of the Communist Party (Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei), is a political pamphlet written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, commissioned by the Communist League and originally published in London in 1848. The text is the first and most systematic attempt by Marx and Engels to codify for widespread consumption the core historical materialist idea that, as stated in the text's opening words, 'the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles', in which social classes are defined by the relationship of people to the means of production. Published against the backdrop of the Revolutions of 1848 and their subsequent repression across Europe, the Manifesto remains one of the world's most influential political documents. Synopsis The Communist Manifesto is divided into a preamble and four sections. The introduction begins: 'A spectre is haunting Europe-the spectre of communism.' Pointing out that it was widespread for politicians-both those in government and those in the opposition-to label their opponents as communists, the authors infer that those in power acknowledge communism to be a power in itself. Subsequently, the introduction exhorts communists to openly publish their views and aims, which is the very function of the manifesto. The first section of the Manifesto, 'Bourgeois and Proletarians', outlines historical materialism, and states that 'the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles'. According to the authors, all societies in history had taken the form of an oppressed majority exploited by an oppressive minority. In Marx and Engels' time, they say that under capitalism, the industrial working class, or 'proletariat', engages in class struggle against the owners of the means of production, the 'bourgeoisie'. The bourgeoisie, through the 'constant revolutionising of production [and] uninterrupted disturbance of all social conditions' have emerged as the supreme class in society, displacing all the old powers of feudalism.[6] The bourgeoisie constantly exploits the proletariat for its labour power, creating profit for themselves and accumulating capital. In doing so, however, Marx and Engels describe the bourgeoisie as serving as 'its own grave-diggers'; as they believe the proletariat will inevitably become conscious of their own potential and rise to power through revolution, overthrowing the bourgeoisie. 'Proletarians and Communists', the second section, starts by stating the relationship of 'conscious communists' (i.e. those who identify as communists) to the rest of the working class. The communists' party will not oppose other working-class parties, but unlike them, it will express the general will and defend the common interests of the world's proletariat as a whole, independent of all nationalities. The section goes on to defend communism from various objections, including claims that it advocates communal prostitution or disincentivises people from working.

'A spectre is haunting Europe - the spectre of Communism.' So begins one of history's most important documents, a work of such magnitude that it has forever changed not only the scope of world politics, but indeed the course of human civilization. The Communist Manifesto was written in Friedrich Engels's clear, striking prose and declared the earth-shaking ideas of Karl Marx. Upon publication in 1848, it quickly became the credo of the poor and oppressed who longed for a society 'in which the free development of each is the condition for the free development of all.' The Communist Manifesto contains the seeds of Marx's more comprehensive philosophy, which continues to inspire influential economic, political, social, and literary theories. But the Manifesto is most valuable as an historical document, one that led to the greatest political upheaveals of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and to the establishment of the Communist governments that until recently ruled half the globe.

The Communist Manifesto, Marx and Engels' revolutionary 1848 summons to the working classes, is one of the most influential political theories ever formulated. After four years of collaboration, the authors produced this incisive account of their idea of Communism, in which they envisage a society without classes, private property or a state. They argue that increasing exploitation of industrial workers will eventually lead to a revolution in which capitalism is overthrown. Their vision transformed the world irrevocably, and remains relevant as a depiction of global capitalism today.
