This is a must. One of the strangest, funniest, most fantastical adventures you’ll have for a long time and certainly since reading Clive Barker’s Abarat, Jasper Fforde’s The Eire Affair or maybe even Alice in Wonderland. Rich in character, incident, invention and wit, it is one of the most inventive books out there. Just read it, all 688 pages of pure wonder. It’s just glorious, like a children’s book for grown-ups.
