Reviver by Seth Patrick

Lovereading view...

Macabre and compelling, this brilliant first novel takes time to establish the intriguing premise that some people can pull the ‘soul’ of a recently dead person back into the body for a limited time. They do not come back to life, but can answer questions. This is particularly useful in murder cases and there is a whole department of the American police devoted to this ‘forensic revival’. If that wasn’t enough to turn the average detective novel on its head there is also the question of where does the ‘soul’ come back from, and what might come back with it? There is always the old idea “It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe in the Devil, he believes in you”. I found the whole idea completely compelling. The central characters are really interesting people to spend time with and as the plot develops, it grows into enough of a thriller to please any James Bond or Dan Brown fan. A real blending of genres, crime, thriller, mystery, supernatural with even a dash of romance thrown in. I loved it.

If you like Seth Patrick you might also like to read books by Stephen King, Justin Cronin and Lauren Beukes.

Synopsis

Reviver by Seth Patrick

HE GIVES JUSTICE TO THE DEAD. Jonah Miller is a reviver. Part of a forensic investigative team, he is able to wake the recently dead and let them bear witness to their own demise. The testimony of the dead is permitted in courtrooms across the world. Forensic revival is a routine part of police investigation. But while reviving the victim of a brutal murder, he encounters a terrifying presence. Something is watching. Waiting. His superiors tell him it was only in his mind, a product of stress. Jonah is not so certain. Then Daniel Harker, a journalist and revival supporter, is murdered, and Jonah finds himself getting dragged into the hunt for answers. Working with Harker's daughter Annabel, he's determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice. Soon they uncover long-hidden truths that call into doubt everything Jonah stands for, and reveal a threat that, if not stopped in time, will put all of humanity in danger ...
