I like reading fantasy books and I like reading police procedural crime fiction so the blend of them both together meant Stay Dark was the perfect pick for me. Neve has an interesting backstory, with questions to uncover surrounding her creation and the solitary existence since. The supernatural elements of the storyline were interesting, playing on the usual expectations of vampires living in secrets and the shadows but I liked the idea of them being called Dwellers, and the suggested future goal of living alongside humans. Detective Marek Kaiden was also an interesting character but as the story developed the mystery element took a bit of a back seat so I feel I didn’t quite get to know him as well as we perhaps could have. As this is the first book in the series there is time for the characters to develop in future books.
