Report of the Second Meeting of the Part 6 Working Group Established by the Parties of the Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing Synopsis

During this meeting, the Working Group discussed the requirements of developing States for the implementation of the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA), noting legal, operational, and technical challenges and identifying where tools already exist to address these challenges.

There was a detailed update on FAO's Global Capacity Development Programme in support of the PSMA, as well as on capacity development initiatives in support of the PSMA by other international organizations, non-governmental organizations, States and other entities. In this context, the group discussed the functionalities of the capacity development portal to be developed and hosted by FAO under the global PSMA programme.

The group also noted that the funding mechanisms to be put in place to assist developing States with PSMA implementation require further clarity in terms of criteria and priorities for reviewing applications.
