This technical paper presents the findings of an FAO regional Technical Cooperation Project on the use of trash fish/low-value fish and pellets as feed for marine cage farming. Implemented in China, Indonesia, Thailand and Viet Nam, its components included a farmers' participatory on-farm trials and a concurrent survey of farmers' perceptions concerning the use of trash fish/low-value fish and pellets feeds and microcredit, environmental impact assessments of the use of two feed types, and a survey of the potential impacts of a change to pellet feeds on livelihoods of fishers and suppliers of trash fish.
