"There is never a dull moment when Crystal is around, but can Hugh convince Crystal that they have a future together?"
Lassoed by Fate is a light-hearted romcom featuring the adventures of Crystal, a Canadian cowgirl and Hugh, a handsome, affluent, cricket-loving country gentleman from Surrey. Situated in the beautiful village of Brockham can be found a traditional pub named “The Duke’s Head” where locals villagers gather regularly for drinks and idle chit-chat. Hugh Barron frequents this pub often, as a means of getting over the death of his former girlfriend. He enjoys the company of Greg, the barman and all the characters in the village and is very happy to relax there with a pint or two of beer. However, Hugh knows that since the death of his girlfriend, his life has been incomplete, and he is now focussing on how he can improve the quality of his life. Meanwhile, in the Canadian province of Alberta, Crystal Macleod, the darling of the rodeo ring where she has won numerous events, is set a travel challenge by her good friend Ana. This results in Crystal embarking on a trip to an African orphanage where she meets Hugh as he has decided to do some meaningful volunteering for the orphanage. What follows is a rocky romance featuring fireworks, fashion, and polo ponies. There is never a dull moment when Crystal is around, but can Hugh convince Crystal that they have a future together? This is a highly entertaining read, however, I would have welcomed a reference list for all the characters given there are many, and I did spend some time fathoming out who was who.

The worlds of Canadian Rodeos and Surrey Village pubs combine in a transatlantic rom-com.
The worlds of Canadian Rodeos and Surrey Village pubs combine in a transatlantic rom-com. Ana and Crystal are cowgirl forces to be reckoned with. Hugh is a rakish British posh boy and Greg a veteran and now a publican and pyrotechnician. Ana requires Greg’s expertise for an event, causing them to meet at a glitzy event in London. Crystal and Hugh, looking for something new, cross paths in Kenya, volunteering at an orphanage. Lassoed by Fate has the potential to be an interesting transatlantic romance storyline joining together two unlikely communities. I’ve become used to romance series that focus on one couple at a time so it did take me a moment to get my head around the multiple characters and storylines that were unfolding. A part of this was that I found the writing didn’t have the most natural flow to it.... Read Full Review
From rodeos to wickets – love doesn’t play fair. When Crystal MacLeod, a Canadian cowgirl with trust issues, collides with a charmingly lazy English cricketer, sparks fly faster than rogue fireworks. She’s all grit, glory and rhinestone glamour; he’s all tweed and warm ale, with a talent for avoiding effort at all costs. Both are running from the expectations of their worlds, but when fate ropes them together, those worlds start to spin out of control. Between culture clashes, cowboy boots and cricket bats, will they learn that love isn’t a game or a rodeo routine? And that maybe – just maybe – falling for each other is the only thing that will set them free . . . For fans of British romantic comedies like Notting Hill and transatlantic love stories, Lassoed by Fate is a wonderfully witty, heart-tuggingly romantic and community-spirited comedy that proves that when fate ropes you in, there’s no escaping a love this wild.
