A Maxim Jakubowski selected title.
Once lauded as the prominent exponent of white collar noir, US author Starr now turns his attention with searing effect to domestic unease and attendant thrills. Recently divorced Karen Daily has moved to Westchester, a quiet New York City suburb with her two children and has begun to rebuild her life and teaches at a local school.
Her neighbour Mark's marriage, however, is deteriorating and he becomes obsessed with her and his expansive fantasy life now one-sidedly includes her. But Karen soon discovers Mark is not the only one who is taking an undesired interest in her. Stripping away the genteel facade of suburbia until the pace becomes truly frenetic, sordid and dark, this ingenious thriller manipulates the heartstrings like a deranged keyboard.
The secret life of middle-class suburbia has never been this disturbing. ~ Maxim Jakubowski

Savage Lane Synopsis
Life is sublime in the idyllic suburb of New York City. Recent divorcee, Karen Daily and her two kids have for the first time in years found joy as they settle into the close-knit community of Savage Lane. Neighbours, Mark and Deb Berman, have been so supportive as she moves on in life: teaching at the local school and even dating again.
But behind pristine houses and perfect smiles lie dark motives far more sinister than Karen could have ever imagined. Unknown to her, Mark, trapped in his own unhappy marriage, has developed a rich fantasy life for the two of them. And as rumours start to spread, it seems that he isn't the only one targeting Karen. . .
A tense domestic thriller where nothing is as it seems, Savage Lane is a searing satire on suburban life, and a raw meditation on obsessive love.
