LoveReading Says

Love (losing it, rediscovering it) and life (trying to make sense of it) are the challenges facing the Quinn sisters after they inherit Heatherly Hall, a stately manor home and estate in Yorkshire, when author Julie Houston returns to Westenbury for The Girls of Heatherly Hall. Triplets Eva, Rosa and Hannah each have their own problems to solve as they take over the estate. Eva, a dentist who secretly wants to be an artist, is in the midst of a divorce. Rosa, the local vicar who used to be a high flyer in the City of London, pines for an old flame who is in her congregation. Hannah, a former youth worker, is trying her best to find her feet as the estate manager, but doesn’t always succeed.

This is the twelfth book that author Houston has set in Westenbury, so faithful readers will recognise fleeting appearances of characters from previous novels. The Girls of Heatherly Hall is the second to feature the Quinn triplets. It isn’t necessary to have read any of the previous novels to understand what’s happening here, though I imagine it would be more fun to spot the return of some of the Westenbury residents.

Houston deftly captures how complicated relationships in families can be, with all the laughs, tears and arguments that come along with it. Each of the sisters has their own story to tell, which makes this novel feel as though it’s three books for the price of one. It was a lovely escape to Yorkshire.
