"A journalist finds herself in the middle of a series of murders in this provocative and gripping new addition to the Shanna Regan Murder Mystery Series."
Thought-provoking on a number of levels, this tension-filled murder mystery is an absorbing and intriguing read. Journalist Shanna Regan is asked to locate a missing person with links to an interfaith charity. As she investigates, she discovers a wall of secrets and finds herself in the midst of prejudice and death. This is the second in this series, and while it can be read as a standalone I would recommend starting at the beginning with The Redeemer. I love how Shanna sits front and centre telling the story, she is learning from her previous adventures and I felt an increased connection with her. I travelled into the pages and stood in the middle of the streets as the descriptions of the businesses and people flowed around me. I felt the fear and confusion as the threats and violence increased. Author Victoria Goldman has the ability to show all aspects of humanity with empathy and consideration. She allows you the chance to explore the links between faiths, to consider the reasons for the racism and violence. The clues sit within the story, the plot coils and and spins, and I was glued to Shanna’s side as she gathered information and grew ever closer to the answer. Smart and oh-so relevant, The Associate is a fascinating and rewarding novel that has been chosen as a Liz Pick of the Month.
