"Soar out into a dragon-filled land in this glorious fantasy adventure and then fall into the human world that cast out the dragons."
This engaging fantasy flirts with magic, adventure, and romance yet still has a decidedly sharp edge. The last male dragon, a dragon prophesied to save his kind from ruination, is pulled from a dying world back into the land dragons were banished from. This is the first in a trilogy and L.R. Lam world-builds with ease, not just one but two locations that are incredibly easy to fall into and believe in. This all feels delightfully different, and yet I felt at home, as though I had already visited these lands. There is an inclusivity on offer here that feels fitting and beautifully established. The differences between the two populated worlds allows the similarities to shine. It is difficult to know who to trust as the main characters have been raised in such opposing ways, and this allowed me to really test my thoughts and feelings for them. While the story is complete in its own right, it feels as though there is much to come. Dragonfall is wonderfully provocative and hugely entertaining novel, and I have chosen it as a Liz Pick of the Month.

The last male dragon. A desperate thief. A bond that will save the world . . . or shatter it.
Long ago, humans betrayed dragons, stealing their magic and banishing them to a dying world. Centuries later, their descendants worship dragons as gods. But the 'gods' remember, and they do not forgive.
Since they were orphaned, Arcady has scraped a living thieving on the streets of Vatra, dreaming of life among the nobility - and revenge. When the chance arises to steal a powerful artefact from the bones of the Plaguebringer, the most hated person in Lumet history, they jump at it, for its magic holds the key to their dreams.
But the spell has unintended consequences, and drags Everen - the last male dragon, who was once foretold to save his kind - into the human world. Trapped, and disguised as a human, Everen soon realises that the key to his destiny, and to regaining his true power, lies in Arcady.
All he needs to do is convince one little thief to bond with him completely - body, mind, and soul - and then kill them . . .
Yet the closer the two become, the greater the risk both their worlds will shatter.
