Fast paced, punchy and chilling in its intensity, this is a compelling and fascinating novel. Enter London just after the Second World War, a London without; torn, broken, perplexed but surviving. Ferris describes thoughts, feelings and surroundings with such depth and perception, you feel you have been transported and are walking the sorrowful streets alongside Danny.
After the show stopper of a first chapter, you will find, if you've already read the authors Brodie novels, a similarity in the lead characters.
Both Brodie and Danny are Scottish miners sons, they've been to University and started a police career before enlisting in the army. This story and Danny however, take their own distinctive path. Ferris introduces this tortured, shrewd and intriguing new Private Detective with impressive style. A missing year, harrowing memories of Dachau Concentration Camp and Ripper style killings turn this into an agile and frightening game of chase through London. ~ Liz Robinson
