Legendary Sneakers Synopsis

This love letter to everyone's favorite athletic shoe guides readers through the world of iconic sneakers, from rubber-soled record setters, to themed kicks, to shoes that became legends of pop culture. Streetwear enthusiast and sneakerhead Tonton Gibs presents a curated collection of noteworthy sneakers, including • the best-selling pair and the most-expensive pairs, • shoes that embodied special themes (holidays, food, and more), • kicks that were featured on the big screen, and • the results of collabs with rappers. Plenty of information on sneaker history, key brands, and the evolution of the popular and comfortable shoes is also provided. With vibrant photos and fun design, this book will spark the imagination of any sneaker enthusiast. Did you know . . . ? Sotheby's auction house shattered the sales records for a pair of sneakers on April 11, 2023, when the Air Jordan XIII OG "Bred" [Black and Red], which were worn and signed by Michael Jordan, sold at $2,200,000. Pairs of Nike Jordans were used to create Batman's boots in at least two of the superhero films: Nike Air Trainer IIs were worn in Batman (1989), and Air Jordan VIs in Batman Returns (1992). Sneaker Politics teamed up with Saucony and New Orleans institution Café du Monde on a sneaker design inspired by the café's famous beignets. The shoes were even sold in a special box that looks like the café's beignet boxes, complete with cooking instructions on the back.
