This was the first case for Bombay CID Inspector Ghote and has just been reissued by Penguin Modern Classics, alongside three other novels in the long lasting series. Sadly the books appeared just a few days following veteran British author Keating's death. Ghote is a unique creation, with a complicated family life and a deferential attitude which also means he is terribly underrated by his superiors, criminals but also the readers.
Gentle sleuthing with terribly ingenious plots and a great, colourful background, and endearing characters. Deservedly classics.
