"A richly imagined Miss Havisham is given a new voice and brought to vivid life in this immersive retelling of Great Expectations. "
A story of revenge, love, and family with Miss Havisham at its deeply beating heart. This reimagined story of Charles Dickens Great Expectations is absolutely fascinating as while there are many aspects that refer to the plot, settings, and characters, it takes you to an entirely unexpected place. So, I recommend entering knowing that you are taking a different path, that you will feel a sense of familiarity yet experience a completely new story, and surely that is the point. You really don’t need to have read Great Expectations to enjoy this novel, as it is likely that you’ve heard of Miss Havisham hellbent on bitter revenge. This is Miss Havisham as you could never have imagined her, there is a deliberate contemporary note even as the story sits within the realms of 19th century history. Charlotte Havisham is uniquely vibrant and while determined on revenge, is able to continue to live within society, to have friends and relationships. I suspect the ending will divide readers, the acknowledgements are interesting as it appears the original ending was somewhat different. Richly imagined and immersive, Havisham is a stimulating story of feminism, love and revenge.
