Sarah Broadhurst's view...

Vunerable, exposed, naïve and dispensible, asylum-seekers are easy prey for the ruthless and Liverpoolâs underworld is full of such people. This is tough, gritty, compulsive stuff, well worth getting caught up in.

Comparison: Mandasue Heller, Jake Arnott, Lynda La Plante.
Similar this month: Martina Cole, Karin Fossum.

Synopsis

Dispossessed by Margaret Murphy

Bled to death and left in a rubbish bin, the teenaged prostitute is just the first victim. DI Jeff Rickmanâs investigation into the Afghan refugeeâs sordid death leads first to the heart of a community who canât - or wonât - talk to him. Then the investigation comes home to Rickmanâs own private life. As the body count starts rising he is framed for a crime he didnât commit. A murderer is trying to make things personal. Very personal. Is he on the trail of a serial killer? Or something even more sinister? THE DISPOSSESSED travels deep into the heart of Liverpoolâs underworld. It is the strongest, most suspenseful and hardest hitting thriller this brilliant storyteller has written yet.

Reviews

‘ In THE DISPOSSESSED Margaret Murphy . . . uncovers the horrifying snake-pit that is life for asylum-seekers in modern Britain . . . an eye-opening shocker of a novel, in which the links between sharp practice and crime form a chain to bind the unwary.â TLS
