An entirely captivating crime thriller, where occasional visitations from the fearsomely uncanny, adds an extra wallop of drama. The detective with a difference returns for a second outing in the ‘PC Donal Lynch Thriller’ series, set in the early 1990’s. Lynch suffers from sleep paralysis, a smugly unscrupulous journalist brother, and a father with links to the IRA. He longs to escape the cold case unit, when a gruesome murder and assistance from his brother occurs, he finds himself working with the murder squad. The short sharp prologue sets the style and energy of this story. James Nally has had a rather fascinating career himself, which undoubtedly adds a depth and sense of authenticity. With comic moments, twists and turns which loop the loop of intrigue, and grittier than gritty criminals, ‘Dance With The Dead’ is an entertaining and sometimes flinch-inducing read. ~ Liz Robinson
