The story of an 'ordinary' man, from humble beginnings, who achieved impressive business success - including overcoming trade union, high interest rate and bank loan problems - and the toll of this success on his marriage but, at the same time, the importance of a strong family life. And running through this life, the importance of friendships made in sport, especially rugby. All in all, a life well led!

Synopsis

B Positive! by Dai Henley

This is not a celebrity memoir. Nor is it a tear-jerking depressing journal - quite the opposite! This is the story of one man's persistence to succeed. Growing up in an impoverished mining community in Wales at the end of WWII, Dai Henley faced life's challenges head on. Determined and voracious in character, his parents also believed his blood type - B_Positive - was a instruction for a successful life. His story encompasses the changes, often dramatic, in the social, technological and economic fortunes of the country over the following sixty years. Despite these and other personal setbacks, his resolve and spirit led him to become an entrepreneurial businessman at the top of his game. Also possessing a life-long passion for a multitude of sports, he relished any challenges that faced him, whether on the playing field or at home.

About the Author

Dai Henley

Dai Henley was born in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales in 1942 of English parents, and grew up in the austerity of the post-war years. Getting to grammar school was a major turning point, just one of three from his council estate.

A passionate sportsman, just like his father and elder brother, he excelled at running, soccer and especially rugby. Good, but not good enough to play professionally, he turned his efforts into the business world and became a successful entrepreneur.

Applying sporting principles to business, he believes his success is as a result of nurturing parents, a persistence and dogged attitude and to mentors and relationships he’s encountered throughout his life.

He now spends his time cultivating his garden in Romsey, Hampshire, watching sports, and writing a crime novel.
