"A truly thought-provoking and compassionate book about assisted dying, covering some of the real lives and deaths that have been chosen around the world, even as the debate continues. "
Gosh, this is worthwhile and challenging read, both in terms of how it made me feel and how it made me think.
Debut author Paul Brand, award-winning broadcaster and journalist, writes with an assured yet compassionate hand: “In two decades as a journalist, I have never encountered a debate with higher stakes”.
He continues: “Every person I have met and every expert I have interviewed has left me questioning my own view of the politics, ethics and humanity of what has widely become known as assisted dying. What would I want for myself, and what should I want for society”.
This book allows and encourages you to bear witness behind the main debate, to the people directly involved in making decisions about their own death. This is about real people, living real lives, dying real deaths, as well as those coping and not coping with the decisions made by loved ones.
The author also covers the practicalities, the political debate, the complexity and morality, however he doesn’t judge. As he states: “Whether you support or oppose assisted dying, in total half a billion people worldwide now have access to it”, and he gives you the most intimate of access possible.
The assisted dying debate deserves to be fully heard, and this book deserves to be read, so I have chosen it as a LoveReading Star Book. Incredibly thought-provoking, Fight to the Death delivers huge emotional impact and consideration with sensitivity and clarity.

Assisted dying is a question that reaches into the deepest parts of us, sitting at the intersection of medicine, morality and personal liberty. For decades, debates around legalisation have played out across the world, even as people on both sides have suffered, struggling with impossibly complex choices.
