This travel book has a wonderful focus, 40 different journeys you can take in Great Britain by foot, train, road, or boat. In the introduction, author Richard Madden explains that it is an invitation to slow down as you journey and really appreciate the landscape and heritage around you. Accompanying the text are beautiful illustrations by Sara Mulvanny and inspiring colourful photos (with credits at the end of the book).
Separated by the different modes of transport, each section begins with an introduction and map of the different journeys you can take. The suggestions range across the landscapes and history of Britain. I recognised some from my own travels, which brought back wonderful memories, and then I sank into the other possibilities.
I really did appreciate how many photos are included, you can’t help but be drawn into the beauty. Some of the journey’s last a short time but can be made into full day trips, or incorporated into a longer jaunt or full holiday. I’ve chosen this as a Liz Pick of the Month as it allows you to dream, to plan, and then slow down and take in your surroundings as you fulfil your dream.
