With Elric, a death god, returned to corporeal form, and their coven expanding, the gravesinger Jessamine is moving closer to taking back the throne that was stolen from her at the altar. But will the newly formed coven be able to uncover what the new king is planning?

With our shadow-god in physical form this book provides ample opportunity for the simmering connection that developed between Jessamine and Elric in the first book in this series to be explored in the “roman” element of this romantasy. Now together, they are stronger than ever, their power developing for what is to come.

The action of this book comes in the form of a search for answers, following the lead gathered in The Deathless One - wonderfully wicked, bloodthirsty and gruesome displays of power. What more would you expect from death magic? The search for information provides tender morsels of world building and expands our knowledge of the gods long gone from this world.

This moody romantasy, with morally slate grey characters delivers a compelling development to our story, with larger battles still lying in wait for the witches and their god.
