Joe’s Collectanea is an anthology of 31 poems covering various subjects from love and friendships to religion and faith and the recent political climate. The poems vary in length and structure, with ‘Epiphany of Life’ offering a one stanza snapshot and others like ‘The Stupor’ offering a more lyrical narrative spanning a couple of pages with repeated phrases acting almost like a chorus throughout.
With such a broad focus in topics throughout the anthology there’s plenty for poetry readers to ponder over, and come back to. This is an easy to read collection of poems. I liked the way the author used repetition of key lines or phrases to get his point across. And the different styles of poem made for a diverse and interesting collection.
I think fans of poetry will appreciate the skill required to deliver this varied anthology. However I also found it accessible enough that I think those less familiar with the genre would be able to discover things to relate to and ponder over. In all, an interesting collection of poems.
