Another brilliant instalment in what is shaping out to be a tremendous sci-fi series.
The fight against the Forsaken continues in this epic and action-packed Sci-fi series. The action in ‘The Albatross: Requiem’ by Connor Mackay picks up pretty much right where we left off in ‘The Albatross: Contact’ after the disastrous first battle against the hordes of enemy Forsaken on Stormwater. Down, but not yet out, the reader takes turns in following Elora, Sarah and Will as the war against this seemingly endless and scarily difficult to beat alien enemy continues. I was gripped by the first book and eager to find out more about what happened to these characters. This sequel doesn’t disappoint, nor does it let up on alien battles, action packed fighting, witty quips, twists, turns, shocks and realisations. To really immerse yourself in the story I would recommend starting with ‘The Albatross: Contact’ but be warned that once you start this epic sci-fi series, you probably won’t want to put it down. In the first book I really liked that the cost of war isn’t shied away from and that continues in ‘Requiem’. As the war goes on, more and more characters experience horror and loss and this isn’t glossed over or made light of. I felt myself drawn further and further towards the three main characters, and hoping that they’d still be standing by the time I turned the page. The prologues for each Part also provide an evil snippet of what may be to come (I say evil because I have so, so, so many questions and I’m waiting with baited breath for the next books in hopes of some answers). Another brilliant instalment in what is shaping out to be a tremendous sci-fi series.

The crew of the elite warship, Albatross, and the newfound Union they belong to, have been gravely injured. First contact with the mysterious alien enemy, known as the Forsaken, was more devastating than they could have imagined. The cost of the Union’s historic rescue mission on the planet Stormwater has left the few remaining survivors picking up the pieces and questioning what hell lies ahead. A new face and another one of the eight original human bright eyes, Elora Bhele, joins Will Reach and Sarah Li in the fight to conquer an objective long-coveted by the Lumenarians – taking back lost ground. However, as the conflict rages on, the Forsaken might not be the only ones they have to worry about. A requiem is a mass or song for the dead . . . and this hymn has just begun.
