Sarah Broadhurst's view...

X-Files’ star’s first foray into fiction is the start of a futuristic series that reads more like a TV series than a book and leaves you very up in the air at the end as it is “to be continued”. Trouble is we have to wait so long for the next! The background feels horribly realistic with Pakistan and India close to war over Kashmir. The UN negotiator’s daughter becomes possessed in a strange way and her behaviour links in with two other children. Stone tablets are discovered, gathered, analysed and found lethal. An ancient religious ceremony seems to connect it all but how? Why? Well … it is for you to find out. Anderson certainly has some interesting ideas in what will obviously grow into a fascinating series.

If you like Gillian Anderson you might also like to read books by Lincoln Child, Justin Cronin and Michael Crichton.

Synopsis

A Vision of Fire by Gillian Anderson

The first in a series, A Vision of Fire is the thrilling science fiction debut of actress Gillian Anderson, best known for her role as Scully on The X-Files with David Duchovny and for The Fall. Renowned child psychologist Caitlin O'Hara is a single mum trying to juggle her job, her son, and a lacklustre love life. Her world is suddenly upturned when Maanik, the daughter of India's ambassador to the United Nations, starts having violent visions. Maanik's parents are sure that her fits have something to do with the recent assassination attempt on her father - a shooting that has escalated nuclear tensions between India and Pakistan to dangerous levels - but when children start having similar outbursts around the world, Caitlin begins to think that there's a stranger force at work. With Asia on the cusp of nuclear war, Caitlin must race across the globe and uncover the supernatural links between these seemingly unrelated cases in order to save her patient - and perhaps the world.
