The Good Book Guide logo The Good Book Guide Review. Certain crime writers rely on the ingenuity of their plots to exert a grip upon the reader, and certainly C J Box is among their number. But he has another even more impressive skill: an acute grasp of characterisation which means that the protagonists of his novels virtually leap off the page. As with this latest outing, in which investigator Joe Pickett is winkling out the secrets of an enigmatic millionaire after a series of disappearances in the Black Hills of North Wyoming. But Joe is to discover that there is a ruthless killer on the prowl, and nobody – least of all Joe – is safe.
