Stephen E. Brown is a professor and head of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Western Carolina University and Professor Emeritus at East Tennessee State University. His criminological theory book, with Finn Esbensen and the late Gilbert Geis, is currently in its ninth edition. Ophir Sefiha is an assistant professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Western Carolina University. He earned his doctorate in justice studies from Arizona State University. His research centers on the interplay among deviance and social control, media, and crime. He has published articles on topics including sport regulation, media coverage of sport scandals, and performance-enhancing drug use.
