An expert on Sherlock Holmes, he's an invested member of the Baker Street Irregulars and a member of The Detection Club. For twenty years he was the editor of the Crime Writers' Association's monthly publication Red Herrings. He has a series of Golden Age mysteries featuring private detective Rupert Wilde, the first of which is The Dead of Winter.
