Bill Snyder: My Football Life and the Rest of the Story Audiobook

Bill Snyder: My Football Life and the Rest of the Story

Author: Bill Snyder, D. Scott Fritchen Narrator: Chris Henry Coffey Release Date: November 2021

When Bill Snyder became Kansas State's head football coach in 1988, he inherited the worst football program in Division I-A history. Kansas State was 299-509-41 in 93 years and was the only college football program to lose 500 games. It had recorded one win in its last 38 games, was also winless in 27 straight games-the longest drought in college football at the time-and home attendance averaged about 13,000. The football program had a trophy case with one inside of it-the second-place trophy from the 1982 Independence Bowl. Little could anybody predict that Snyder would soon engineer a total transformation in Manhattan, Kansas. From his humble beginnings in St. Joseph, Missouri, Snyder rose to greatness, bringing KState up from the ashes to a No. 1 ranking, six 11-win seasons in a span of seven years, and one Big 12 Championship. He still wasn't finished. After a three-year retirement, Snyder returned to lead the Wildcats to another Big 12 title. He accomplished the greatest turnaround in sports by inspiring young men through his visionary 16 Wildcat Goals for Success and through a relentless work ethic. Snyder put in 18-hour days, not eating until a late-night dinner-once the workday had been completed-and subsisting on 10 cups of coffee a day. To further increase his productivity, he even tried getting hypnotized so that he could live completely without sleep. In 2015, he became just the fourth person in history to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as an active coach. In this new memoir, Snyder reflects on a successful yet complicated life, detailing the grueling work weeks and the virtues he doubled down on during his final years as head coach, all the while battling throat cancer. Readers will discover a multi-faceted portrait of one of college football's greatest leaders, his triumphs and defeats, his greatness and his flaws, and his passion to lead a championship team-not once, but twice-while developing young men.

Arriving in a New Age Arizona town to claim his inheritance, Brother Tommy meets a charismatic, smoking-hot cult leader who claims that women are being impregnated by alien beings while they sleep. Mad Travelers: A Tale of Wanderlust, Greed and the Quest to Reach the Ends of the Earth Audiobook

Mad Travelers: A Tale of Wanderlust, Greed and the Quest to Reach the Ends of the Earth

Author: Dave Seminara Narrator: Chris Henry Coffey Release Date: June 2021

A brilliant, young con artist offered to help the world's most traveled people reach the planet's last untouched frontiers; instead, they were taken for a wild ride that turned into a costly lesson on the perils of wanderlust. At twenty-three, William Simon Baekeland was well on his way to becoming the world's best traveled person. The "billionaire" heir to a great plastics fortune had already visited 163 countries, but his real passion was finding ways to visit the world's most challenging destinations-war torn cities, disputed territories, and remote or officially off-limits islands at the margins of the map. He earned rock-star status in the world of extreme travel by finding ingenious ways to bring the world's most widely traveled people to difficult-to-reach and forbidden places. But when his story began to unravel, an eccentric group of hyper-well-traveled country collectors were left wondering how they had allowed their obsession to blind them to the warning signs that William Baekeland wasn't who they thought he was. Mad Travelers: A Tale of Wanderlust, Greed and the Quest to Reach the Ends of the Earth delves deep inside the subculture of country collecting, taking readers to danger zones like Mogadishu and geographical oddities like Norway's nearly impossible-to-reach Bouvet Island. Along the way, this raucous tale of adventure and international intrigue illuminates the perils and pleasures of wanderlust while examining a fundamental question: why are some people compelled to travel, while others are content to stay home? Mad Travelers is a perceptive and at times hilarious account of how the pursuit of everywhere put the world's greatest travelers at the mercy of a brilliant young con man.

The War on Small Business: How the Government Used the Pandemic to Crush the Backbone of America Audiobook

The War on Small Business: How the Government Used the Pandemic to Crush the Backbone of America

Author: Carol Roth Narrator: Chris Henry Coffey Release Date: June 2021

For years, government bureaucrats have been looking for ways to destroy small businesses. With coronavirus, they finally had their chance.  In 2020, the American economy suffered the biggest financial collapse in history. But while Main Street suffered like never before, the stock market continued to reach new highs. How could this be? The answer is that government had slapped oppressive restrictions on small businesses while propping up Wall Street and engineering a historic consolidation of power and wealth. This isn’t a new problem. During the last financial crisis, Washington bailed out large banks, saying they were “too big to fail.” When the federal government finally pushed out the CARES Act in 2020, it clearly favored the wealthy and well-connected, showing that small businesses were too small to matter. People across the political spectrum constantly complain about the tyranny of big business, and they’re not wrong. However, too many think government is the solution. In reality, government is the problem. In The War on Small Business, entrepreneur Carol Roth unveils the many abuses of power inflicted on small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Small business owners were thrown in jail for trying to make a living. Individual rights were discarded. Big government did what it does best—intentionally protect the rich and powerful. This is the most underreported story coming out of the pandemic. The government chose winners and losers, who would thrive and who would fight to survive, based on not data or science, but based on clout and connections. This enabled the government, with the aid of the Federal Reserve, to oversee the largest wealth transfer in history from Main Street to Wall Street. The issues started long ago and continue today with a highly tilted playing field that favors those “in the club” to the detriment of the average Americans. This book is about the Davids vs. the Goliaths and the decentralization that can help the small, independent businesses and individuals participate in wealth creation. If Americans don’t wake up and stop it, politicians will continue to produce policies that intensify their war on small business and individuals and all that stands in the way of centralized power and control.

Out of the Ether: The Amazing Story of Ethereum and the $55 Million Heist that Almost Destroyed It A

Author: Matthew Leising Narrator: Chris Henry Coffey Release Date: October 2020

The thrilling story of one of the largest digital heists in history, set in the world of cryptocurrencies In 2016, $55 million was stolen as computer programmers all around the world sat at their screens watching helplessly. It was one of the largest digital heists in history. This daring theft played out in the world of blockchain, the technological breakthrough that enabled Bitcoin to go from an idea in 2008 to a $130 billion digital currency today. Out of the Ether takes an in-depth look at the most prominent successor to Bitcoin, a radically improved type of computer software invented by 19-year-old genius Vitalik Buterin. Known as Ethereum, its shaky beginnings allowed for the incredible hack that led to the $55 million heist. It's a real-life cryptocurrency thriller that's sure to capture your imagination, whether you're an investor, investment professional, or simply interested in learning more about blockchain innovation and cryptocurrencies. The story of Ethereum begins with Buterin, from his earliest days in Russia to Canadian émigré to wunderkind writer and coder. After pulling off one of the largest crowd sales in history at the time, Buterin and his cohorts built the Ethereum blockchain to become a world computer. But early on things went horribly astray. A futuristic automated investment fund created using Ethereum received an astounding $250 million in investment cash, yet a bug was mistakenly inserted in the code on line 666, allowing a hacker to steal a fifth of that money. Since there's no federal deposit insurance for digital currency, the theft created a crisis that only a group of good-guy hackers who had helped build Ethereum could combat. Think of ninjas battling on the blockchain and you've only scratched the surface of this fascinating real life adventure. In the end, Buterin advocated for an extremely controversial fix: reversing time to a point before the theft happened to erase it and reinstate the stolen money. This controversial move sent a concerning message: cyber transactions could be wiped out after the fact. In light of the Ethereum crisis and its founders' actions, stakeholders in the multibillion-dollar virtual economy were forced to re-examine digital currency's future. This book goes behind the scenes of the Ethereum theft, making it a true page-turner. You'll also discover the never-before told history of the Ethereum developers and the struggles and triumphs they endured. Understand the background behind a historic theft of ether. Dive into the Ethereum blockchain that hosts smart contracts. Learn more about the team that established Ethereum and kept it alive.
