"इस उपन्यास में अभिमन्यु के जीवन वृतांत का वर्णन किया गया है। अभिमन्यु महाभारत के नायक अर्जुन और सुभद्रा, जो बलराम व कृष्ण की बहन थी, के पुत्र थे। उन्हें चंद देवता का पुत्र भी माना जाता है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि समस्त देवताओं ने अपने पुत्रों को अवतार के रूप में धरती पर भेजा था। लेकिन चंद्रदेव ने कहा कि वे अपने पुत्र का वियोग सहन नहीं कर पाएंगे इसलिए उनके पुत्र को मनुष्य के रूप में मात्र सोलह वर्ष की आयु दी जाए। अभिमन्यु एक असाधारण योद्धा थे। और कौरव पक्ष की व्यूहरचना जिसे चक्रव्यूह भी कहा जाता है, के 7 द्वारों में से 6 द्वार उन्होंने भेद दिए थे। और सबसे खास बात यह है कि अभिमन्यु ने अपनी माता की कोख में रहते हुए अपने पिता अर्जुन के मुख से चक्रव्यूह भेदन करना सीखा था। परंतु सुभद्रा के बीच में ही सो जाने के कारण वे चक्रव्यूह में प्रवेश करना तो जान गए थे परंतु उस व्यूह से बाहर आने की कला नहीं सुन पाए थे। अभिमन्यु की मृत्यु का कारण सिंधु नरेश जयद्रथ था, जिसने अभिमन्यु के साथ आए अन्य पांडवों को चक्रव्यूह में प्रवेश करने से रोक दिया और इसी का लाभ उठाकर कौरव पक्ष के सभी महारथी युद्ध के नियमों को तोड़कर उस बालक पर टूट पड़े और इस बालक ने वीरगति प्राप्त की।
