"Full of quirky characters and a tint of chaos, these short stories are great for anyone looking for a collection of criminally good short stories."
Theft, murder and deceptions abound in this short story collection filled with dark humour and a little bit of chaos. ‘Deadly Guests’ is a collection of 10 short stories previously published in a variety of magazines between 2018 and 2021 combined to create a twisting anthology of thrillers demonstrating that getting what you want isn’t always the best thing. Each short story is a self-contained vignette: a mother trying to reconnect and protect her teenage daughter, a divorcee wanting some of the attention her old friends are giving her ex’s new partner, a man’s tryst with the woman in an antique shop leads to a deadly request. Each tale had a twist I didn’t see coming and a dark humour that left me entertained. One of my personal favourite stories was ‘I’ve Come for the Cash’. I found the earnest former journalist and wannabe robber’s plans to commit robbery and write a series of articles about it quite amusing. The plot didn’t go in the direction I expected and the end result was a rather comic caper into a life of crime. Although this is a collection of rather dark tales, the author manages to deliver each of the stories in a way that is quite vibrant. Full of quirky characters and a tint of chaos, these short stories are great for anyone looking for a collection of criminally good short stories.
