About

Energy Spectra of Interacting Quantized Vortex Configurations Synopsis

This book is a significant advance towards a general theory of turbulence. It can help to describe and control the turbulent flows that make a vital contribution to the transport of chemical species and heat that is itself a key concept of chemical engineering.

Energy Spectra of Interacting Quantized Vortex Configurations helps both scientists and engineers studying turbulent flows to gain a physical understanding of their key features using the motion and interactions of vortices. The author shows how superfluid turbulence research can be imported into numerical calculations of Navier-Stokes turbulence to generate results of interest to readers with both classical and quantum-theoretic backgrounds.

By using Lagrangian vortex dynamics, the book shows directly that vortex stretching in Navier-Stokes fluids induces both energy transfer to smaller scales and the Kolmogorov scaling. The approach is also applied to vortices in the linear Schrödinger equation, showing that even without vortex stretching, the Kolmogorov scaling appears as a consequence of Kolmogorov dimensional arguments. The algorithms and information flowcharts used to develop the research presented are explained.
