"This book would suit a reader willing to suspend belief and be led by the story. "
A trippy but ultimately heart-warming story of finding your purpose. Dave Welch is adrift, a retired international rugby player who is now floundering in a civil service job, on his last chance to deliver with his home life equally strained. The arrival of the mysterious Sal and unexplainable space jumping visits to Iceland really sends Dave’s life into a tailspin, forcing him to confront his purpose, whether he will do whatever to stay on the path he’s already on, or maybe step off and make a real difference.
The narrative of Tuesday is told from Dave’s perspective, so when things take a turn for the unexplainable and unreliable, we are as adrift as he is which makes it quite easy to lose your bearings. I found it easiest to not fight the current of the story and allow myself to be swept along, the switchback of revelations reframing my perspective as they occur.
I can see why there are suggested comparisons to The Midnight Library though I wouldn't personally make that comparison. I would say Tuesday is more equivalent to a grown up Alice in Wonderland, in the sense that things aren’t always what they seem but there’s always a tether to Dave’s real world no matter how tumultuous his experiences may get.
This book would suit a reader willing to suspend belief and be led by the story. For those that can, they’ll ultimately find a sweet hopeful read.
