" An absolute stunner of a cookbook, inside and out; every dish is a treat with the wow factor."
Nisha Katona is the real deal. She gave up her successful career as a barrister and used all her savings to launch the Mowgli Street Food restaurants and the Mowgli Trust charity. I visited her Bold Street restaurant in Liverpool not long after it opened. And became hooked. She now has 21 restaurants and the Trust raises over £500k each year for charities and sponsors a child in need for every full-time employee.
Also the author of five cookbooks including the bestselling Mowgli Street Food, 30 Minute Mowgli and Meat Free Mowgli, Bold is her latest foray. And wow what a foray it is.
With the theme of ‘Fortune Favours the Bold’ Katona delivers a beautiful boundary-breaking bevy of dishes that show her bravery and eye for flavour.
It’s eclectic alright and although I wasn’t entirely sure with some of the boldness, you have got to trust this culinary nomad. And dive right in!
The collection of recipes have one thing in common: they all have an element that take you beyond the familiar. New versions of old classics like oxtail and coffee pie or cassoulet de full English both of which are to die for by the way.
Mixed with exciting dishes from different world cultures picked up from her travels, like amaretto lamb raan, haggis filled crispy pakoras and mac 'n' cheese with Korean chilli. All of which are wow!
The sweet plates are an absolute triumph and I might be a little obsessed with the zingy ginger and tamarind margarita!
Take your culinary adventures global and dive into this bold feast of a cookbook. It’s definitely a walk on the wild side and this intrepid explorer (with my new international spice rack) is all in.
