A girl is picked up for shoplifting and not wanting to give her real name, we know not why, she picks the name of a girl who disappeared ten years ago.  When it all happened and Rebecca Winter’s photo was all over the place, our narrator and her boyfriend remarked how similar they were.  So now our narrator dons the mantel of the lost girl and suddenly has a home, parents and two younger brothers, twins.  She has a best friend and a hunk of a boy who has always had a crush on the ‘lost’ girl.  She also claims to have amnesia so now as Bec she has it made, only the police have lots of questions.  We follow Bec in 2014 and in alternate chapters we follow the real Bec in 2003 over the last few days of her life at home.  Both time-frames build up the tension, the earlier as we hope to find out what actually happened and the latter as we wonder if Bec, the imposter, will actually get away with her lie.  It’s fascinating.  Many a time I thought ‘I wouldn’t have done it like that’ but as we follow both Becs’ plights we become anxious for their success.  When the twist comes at the end it really hits you in the stomach. ~ Sarah Broadhurst
