LoveReading Says

It’s a beautiful summer evening in the Lake District. The water is lapping at the shore. The sun is glowing golden. A squirrel is frolicking by the lake. A dead body is underneath a boat.

Nothing like a dead body to kill the fun summer vibe.

But that’s only the first of two mysterious deaths D.I. Kelly Porter must investigate in Cruel Truth by Rachel Lynch. This marks the thirteenth outing for D.I. Kelly Porter, and Lynch has sold more than one million books worldwide.

Both dead bodies have a connection to a wellness conference hosted by a multinational pharmaceutical company. Porter has her work cut out for her. As her investigation continues, she begins to see that the deaths create more questions than answers.

D.I. Porter is a fully formed character, and readers can see how the crimes and mysteries affect her personally. Scenes with her young daughter also show how she tries to juggle being a good detective with being a good mother. The Lake District becomes a character itself, with its stunning beauty and the various people—good and bad—who come to visit it.

This is a page-turning thriller with lies, deceit and corporate malfeasance. It will keep readers guessing until the final page.

About Cruel Truth

It's a stunning summer evening in the Lake District. The day has been hot and long, and tourists are only just leaving Rydal Water. One solitary rowing boat remains; face-down in the reeds. Underneath is the body of a young woman.
