A collection of short poems to ponder over. ‘The Weight of Missing’ by Emily R. Paget is a debut collection of short poems. Ranging from a few lines to a couple of pages, this collection can be read easily in an afternoon, or perhaps taken one at a time and mulled over as you go about your day. A variety of structure and forms are used alongside the different topics and interpretation of the themes to give each poem a unique sound. The collection consists of 84 poems and is split up into four different sections: Lost, Forgotten Tears, Unspoken Promise and Fragile Truth. I would say ‘How Far’ was my favourite poem of the collection. I found that the poignant bittersweetness of an unrequited love seemed to echo off the page and made me pause after finishing reading to absorb the impact. The collection as a whole is varied and well put together, with many different takes on the themes of love, loss and what it means to be human. A good book for poetry enthusiasts and newcomers alike due to the variety and accessible style.
