"‘17 Planets - The Captain’ is the start of a detailed and complex narrative with character driver action as well as interplanetary conflicts to entertain sci-fi readers."
The first book in what plans to be an expansive science fiction saga. The first in a planned five book saga, ‘17 Planets - The Captain’ by A. R. Alexander introduces us to a complex world where 17 different planets all populated by the descendants of former inhabitants of Planet Earth are separated into political factions with relationships as taut as a tightrope. We’re also introduced to Elizabeth, or Captain Lee, a complex main character with secrets that has a price on her head but whose vigilante actions seem to be for the greater good. A.R. Alexander has created an expansive world with histories, conflicts and cultures to get to know. The narrative has lots of twists, with fresh details that change your perspective of events when they are revealed. Elizabeth is a dynamic, multi-faceted character that is clearly capable while also able to use the fact people expect Captain Lee to be male to her advantage. The story offers both dangerous action packed missions, with lots of different characters to get to know and political positioning in a broader scope in order to offer a bit of something for all sci-fi fans. One pet peeve of mine is the use of footnotes, there aren’t many in this book but I felt that it broke the flow of the story to flip to the back of the book to read them when, if the information is vital to the reader, it should have been woven into the narrative. ‘17 Planets - The Captain’ is the start of a detailed and complex narrative with character driver action as well as interplanetary conflicts to entertain sci-fi readers.

“17 Planets – The Captain” is the first in a saga of five books. A woman with an extraordinary mind and a dark past demanding revenge. 17 planets divided into four factions whose leaders forgot their inhabitants all arrived from the same place: Planet Earth. A threat that could turn a tool that saves everyone’s life into the worst imaginable nightmare. Elizabeth, a chameleonic and seductive woman, is the only one who can make a difference, but her uniqueness weighs on her shoulders like the world weighs on Atlas' shoulders. These are just some of the ingredients of this novel where action scenes alternate with political ones and the relationship between the many characters, as much as the suffering and the claustrophobic anguish, alternate with the human need for love and loyalty. All seasoned with a drops of eroticism and a hint of humour.
