"A raucous tale of a hunt for stardom with family at its heart."
Available in Kindle and Paperback from Amazon.
Donnie McNamara can’t catch a break. His childhood shot as Joseph ruined by childhood nemesis Francis, and his family would much prefer Donnie concentrate more on taking over the family farm than on dreaming the small Irish town of Bellvara for the bright lights of Hollywood. Abe Nelson is a fallen star, struggling with his personal life imploding led to a ruinous red carpet moment that has him avoiding the spotlight. When the two characters cross paths, hope adds a new shine to tinsel town for both of them.
Written by screenwriter Fiona Graham, The Chancer is a raucous tale, from calamitous auditions to cringe-worthy encounters that will make you laugh and become more and more endeared to Donnie and Abe. The opening drew me in, an interview on a late night chat show derailed by a heckler, left me wondering what Donnie had done to garner such a reaction. As the story unfolded I laughed as Donnie found himself in comically ridiculous auditions and felt bad as he bats away disappointment after disappointment. The unwitting and initially unwilling mentor in Abe shows how badly a quest into acting can go, with the help of a bright and varied supporting cast that offers some grounding to the story. A story that’s as much about family as it is about a quest for fame and fortune, I thought that The Chancer was an easy to read and entertaining story.
