Lansdale's Hap and Leonard are a classic pairing: Hap, an ebullient white trash rebel and former leftie, and Leonard a tough as nails and pugnacious, black and gay Vietnam veteran. I, for one, am very much looking forward to seeing them soon on TV where a series has just been filmed, starring, respectively, James Purefoy and Michael Kenneth Williams ('The Wire').
After a series of picaresque adventures in previous volumes, the pair have now set themselves up as official private eyes only to attract trouble like human magnets when a client blackmails them into investigating her missing granddaughter by threatening to release a film of Leonard beating up a dog abuser.
Mishaps continue and mayhem ensues what with stolen cars, hot women and prostitution rings and, as a free extra, rather ugly skinheads. Texas hillbilly noir tuned up to the max, frenetic action, sharp and rude dialogue. A guilty pleasure. ~ Maxim Jakubowski

Their first client: a mean old woman looking for her missing granddaughter. The girl used to work for a car dealership in town...but it seems like cars weren't the only things on offer. The mystery thickens to include blackmail, revenge, and an inbred family of hillbilly assassins who eliminate any threats to the operation.

Joe R. Lansdale is the author of more than a dozen novels, including Sunset and Sawdust, Rumble Tumble and The Bottoms. He has received the British Fantasy Award, the American Mystery Award, the Edgar Award, the Grinzane Cavour Prize for Literature, and seven Bram Stoker Awards. Several of his novels have been adapted for the screen, including Bubba Ho-Tep and most recently Cold in July, starring Michael C. Hall. His Hap and Leonard series is currently in development for television. He lives with his family in Nacogdoches, Texas.
