"One of our books of the year, stunning photos and accompanying text delivers the essence of cats, it is quite simply glorious. "
Just how to do this stunningly beautiful book justice… I felt an immediate connection, and I not only want to shout about it from the rooftops, I also want to treasure and adore it. Are you like me, before opening a book, do you take time to explore the cover? Well in that case you are in for a treat. From the dust cover star staring out at you, to the choice of the hardcover print beneath (and tiny guest!), it all screams of its quality and the thought that has gone into making Feline. Its size is the first thing to note, if you are perusing online, then you need to know that it is roughly 31x31x3cm. This means you have a breathtaking beast within your hands which allows the photos to shine as you turn the pages.
Photographer Tim Flach has perfectly caught the essence of cat, 170 photos strut, saunter, and pounce their way through the book, some of them covering double pages and the visual impact is immense. The models range from domestic to endangered wild cats, the photos from close ups to acrobatic shots, and informative to pure celebratory joy. Tim Flach says of cats in the prologue: “The images in this book honour their independence and their role in reintroducing wildness into our lives. A cat is never owned, only accompanied”.
While the photos are undoubtedly scene-stealer’s, the accompanying text by Professor Jonathan B. Losos and Professor Morten L. Kringelbach brings weight and knowledge, of the history, science, and human connection to cats. QR codes (pages 7 and 333) allow you to see behind the scenes, and it is also important to note that AI has not touched these pages, all of these cats are as real as real can be. I am very much aware that I’m gushing about this beauty, and I don’t apologise for that. Feline is undoubtedly a star of the show and of course joins our LoveReading Star Books and is a Liz Pick of the Month. It would make a simply fabulous gift, whether for a loved one or yourself. Our team highly recommends Feline, celebrating cats in all their majestic glory it is quite simply magnificent.
