LoveReading Says

This dark fantasy stole slivers from my heart and has taken up residence in my soul, I absolutely loved it. A quest awaits Hop after he awakens in a labyrinth with no memories, gathering companions he encounters unimaginable horrors as he attempts to escape. Written by Frances White, author of the truly fabulous murder-mystery/fantasy novel Voyage of the Damned, The Bone Door also sits as a LoveReading Star Book, though slips into deeper, darker, bloodier waters. The companions are a group of children with Hop at their centre, however this is most certainly not a children’s book. If you enter the labyrinth alongside the companions you will encounter nightmarish beasts, power-hungry godlike creatures, and horrors only a human mind can provide. I felt on the edge of enchantment, but not in the way I expected and there is clever provocative writing within these fantastical pages. Humour can be found, a lightness of touch that steals from the darkness even as it highlights the pain. As each door opened and the path became clearer, I sank further and I hurt yet loved more. As well as a Star Book, this also sits as a Liz Pick of the Month and I have no doubt will be one of my favourite novels of the year. Containing masterful storytelling, The Bone Door is the most compelling of tales as it sets love and kindness against hate and horror. Highly recommended.
