Joe Cartigan is a former boxer at an ailing club in a post pandemic world. He’s battling his own demons when he is recruited by a shadowy organization working covertly to police history. Using the Atomograph, operatives are sent back in time to prevent catastrophic events before they happen. Then he must intervene as a rogue predecessor tries to change the cause of events of the World Trade Centre attacks on 9/11.
This time, Joe’s role isn’t to save lives but to make sure that history doesn’t change.
I really liked the concept of The Atomograph. Discussions about what you would do if you could time travel, whether you’d try to prevent certain events in history have been had many times over, but this fast paced novel plays out that scenario and the result is an enticing, gripping read. The story seems to open up in the final stages, both the reader and Joe have many unanswered questions and are left second guessing everything.
It’s structured in a way that will leave you wanting more: more answers, more information, more from Joe and what could happen next. The Atomograph is a well-written, easy to read thriller that you can race through in one sitting before going looking for news of the next book in the series.
