I love the cop, she is close enough to retirement not to care if she bends a rule or two; I love the concept, murder victims who are definitely inviting their killer into their homes; I love the villain, a truly demented individual on a very strange mission and so, I love the book, nicely creepy, very compulsive and just that little bit different. Great stuff, not for the faint-hearted.

Detective Inspector Hazel Micallef of Port Dundas is making her way toward retirement with something less than grace. Hobbled by a bad back and a dependence on painkillers, and blindsided by her recent divorce, sixty-one-year-old Hazel has only the constructive criticism of her old goat of a mother to buoy her.
But when a Port Dundas woman is found murdered in her home – with no sign of resistance and her mouth sculpted into a strangely meaningful shape – Hazel and her bickering department spring to life. And as more bodies are found, she must confront a clamouring press and the town’s rumour mill whilst she edges ever closer to this terrifying, gruesomely inventive serial killer.

'So impressive I couldn't put the damned thing down... genuine surprises, twists and turns that will keep you turning pages quickly and too late into the night.' LA Times
