Sarah Broadhurst's view...

A great big fat book, 896 pages, but written in short, breathless chapters that leave you racing to the next so you really donât feel the length. Interlinking the past and the future with Russian undertones and too many strands to detail here, it really is a most compulsive read. Highly recommended.

Comparison: Nelson de Mille, David Baldacci, Frederick Forsyth.
Similar this month: Martin Cruz Smith, Stel Pavlou.

If you like Allan Folsom you might also like to read books by David Baldacci, Nelson Demille and Frederick Forsyth.

Here's what one of our members thinks of her bag
A big thank you for the two Lovereading bags I ordered, which have arrived safely. I love mine and will use it with pride. The bags are lovely quality, sturdy and support a good cause in the Rewrap initiative; I think they make the perfect accessory for any book lover. The second bag was a gift for my sister and she says she will take it to her next book group meeting to help spread the Lovereading word. Once again, many thanks. Emily Wright

Synopsis

The Exile by Allan Folsom

Raymond Thorne is wanted for murder - in Mexico, in Chicago and, most of all, in Los Angeles. He's got the elite 5-2 Squad of the LAPD on his tail, but still eludes them, until John Barron collars him. Then he escapes again - by dying. Barron, injured himself and off the case, is obsessed by the true identity of the man, by the tantalising clues to his motives - the keys to an anonymous safety deposit box, two London addresses in a notebook alongside a date marked 'in Moscow'. But Barron is carving a new life for himself and his sister in Europe and he pushes the enigma to the back of his mind, until one of Thorne's contacts in LA is found murdered in Paris, and only one man could have killed him - Thorne. Is it possible he pulled off the greatest escape? How? Why? Determined to learn the truth, Barron sets on a dangerous trail which will lead him across Europe to the icy streets of St Petersburg where Thorne's true persona and devastating political ambition threatens the world order.

'Once you start THE EXILE, forget sleep. Its fierce, complex suspense is fast as a 9mm slug and tight as a hangman's noose.' Stephen Coonts
